Stonehenge
Stonehenge
is a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire, about 2.0
miles (3 km) west of Amesbury and 8 miles (13 km) north of Salisbury. One of
the most famous websites in the world, Stonehenge is built around a large mass
of standing stones set inland. At the center of the problem is the overcrowded
Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, which contain several hundred
burial mounds.
Archaeologists
believe that a permanent monument was erected everywhere from 3000 BC to 2000
BC, as described within the chronology below. Radiocarbon dating in 2008
suggested that the main stones be placed in 2400-2200 BC, just as one theory
suggests that bluestones could also be built on a web page before 3000 BC (see
paragraph 1 below).
The
surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which is the first phase of the
monument, was mentioned around 3100 BC. The website and surrounding areas were
also introduced to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986 in a list that
coincided with the Avebury Henge memorial. It is a land of ancient monuments
that is officially covered. Stonehenge is owned by the Crown and is controlled
by English Heritage, and the consolidated land is owned by the National Trust.
